Okay, I tried oral sex on my boyfriend for the first time a couple of nights ago. But I found that I have a really really weak gag reflex. So, when I would “go in”, I would always start gagging. I really don’t wanna throw up cause that would be really embarrassing…can anybody give me any tips? Should I breathe a certain way or something?

Let’s start off by saying - you’re not alone.  A lot of people complain of having ‘too strong’ of a gag reflex, which can get in the way of enjoying oral sex.

But let’s think about other things it could be as well.

• How far did you try to put the penis into your mouth?  If you tried to deep throat him, that’s probably not the best way to get started.  Next time, start with just an inch of the penis in your mouth.  Then the next time you give oral sex, increase the amount of penis in your mouth a bit more.  The next time more, etc.  This way, you don’t feel overwhelmed.
• How nervous were you? - If you’re really nervous about oral sex, that’s going to increase your chances of gagging.  Instead, take things slow and easy.  If you push yourself too far, you will always associate giving head with negative feelings.
• Did you breathe? - Some women confuse feeling light headed with being nauseous.  Make sure you are breathing through your mouth and nose as much as you can when you are giving a blowjob.  Yes, this can be tricky, but it is possible.  If your nose is clear, you should be able to breathe no problem.

Other tips include:

• Once you feel like you’re going to gag, stop what you’re doing and wait for the feeling to pass.  It will pass if you don’t push yourself too far.  And the more you begin to calm down, the less likely that feeling is to return.
• Try giving oral sex to a dildo.  Practicing on your own can help you see what you need to do once you have a ‘live’ penis in your mouth.

Some women never get over that nauseous feeling, so if you’re one, learn to perfect your handjob techniques!  There’s always an alternative, after all.
